Sonia Cheng joined Chung Shing Taxi in 2011 to oversee administration, planning and business development, after graduating from Victoria University, Australia with a Bachelor of Business in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. "We are here to help" is her motto, which echoes the 'people-centric' culture of the company. Sonia takes every comment and suggestion very seriously and is driven to pursue projects that promote sustainable development.

Using Technology to Strengthen Market Position

Since joining Chung Shing Taxi in 2011, Sonia has upheld its people-centric culture while implementing digital transformation to enhance operational efficiency. She spearheaded the development of a digital infrastructure/system to manage taxis. As a result, the number of taxis under management has risen from 200 to 800 within six years. The digital infrastructure/system has further consolidated Chung Shing Taxi’s market leadership position.
Innovation that takes Service to a New Level

Sonia’s dedication and hard work has not only helped Chung Shing Taxi to thrive but has taken taxi services to a new level. In 2015, she founded SynCab, Hong Kong’s first multi-purpose taxi fleet, providing a high-quality multi-purpose taxi service for Hong Kong citizens, tourists and people with disabilities. SynCab meets the varying needs of people looking for wheelchair accessible transportation, business car hire, or a personalised taxi service. The SynCab fleet has been recognised by the Hong Kong government and serves as a role model for the taxi industry worldwide, redefining the role and responsibility of taxis in society.

Awarded

Under Sonia’s leadership, SynCab drivers have received more than 4,000 public nominations as “Quality Taxi Drivers” under the Taxi Service Commendation Scheme jointly organised by the Transport Department and the Committee on Taxi Service Quality. Sonia’s innovation and contributions to the industry have been recognised on numerous occasions. She is currently president of the Taxi Dealers & Owners Association, a member of the Committee on Taxi Service Quality, and CMILT of The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport. Looking ahead, Sonia aims to continue the transformation of service standards and the use of technology to help Chung Shing Taxi to reach new heights.
